Meet The FOUNDER
State-Certified Special Education Teacher | Autism Expert & Advocate
Millicent Yalley is the founder of AutismBeyond18 LLC, a purpose-driven organization dedicated to supporting young adults with autism and their families as they navigate the critical transition from high school into adulthood.
Millicent is a state-certified special education teacher with over 10 years of experience in special education and more than 15 years in general education.
Millicent has spent her career working closely with students and families. She sat in countless IEP meetings, watching the same pattern unfold: families approaching the end of high school feeling unprepared, overwhelmed, and unsure of what comes next.
Millicent Yalley didn’t just study the transition to adulthood—she lived it. As a mother of a young adult with autism, Millicent experienced firsthand the complexity, urgency, and emotional weight of transitioning into adulthood. She continues to see the gaps. She is feeling the frustration, and she is convinced that something has to change.
What truly shaped her mission were the stories that came when she connected with her former students and families. Most of them shared their realities, young adults at home without direction, families without guidance, and potentials left untapped. These experiences reinforced her commitment to creating AutismBeyond16 LLC, a better pathway forward.
The path of AutismBeyond18 is one where transition planning starts early, families feel equipped, and young adults are seen for their strengths, not just their challenges.
Today, through her work, advocacy, and community initiatives—including her radio show “Skuul Nkomo” ( a community education forum to discuss how issues of education affects families in the diaspora ) and a weekend tutoring program—Millicent is helping families move from confusion to clarity, and from uncertainty to possibility.
Millicent believes that adulthood for young adults with autism shouldn’t feel like a dead end, instead a beginning of something meaningful.
Our Story
At Autism Beyond 18, we partner with families to provide personalized guidance, and support for transition into independent and fulfilling adulthood with focus on strengths. We walk alongside families as they navigate education, employment, independent living, and community integration—ensuring no one feels lost after public school.
Autism Beyond 18 was founded with a clear and compassionate purpose: to bridge the gap between high school and adulthood for autistic young adults and their families. Too often, families feel overwhelmed, underprepared, and unsupported when formal school services end. AutismBeyond18 was created to change that narrative.
We understand that transition is not just about services—it’s about identity, independence, dignity, and long-term success. Our approach is rooted in strength-based planning, practical guidance, and culturally responsive support that meets families where they are.
